It’s a rainy Friday morning and the beautiful Albums is elegantly sitting across me at the almost empty cafeteria chewing on her sweet potatoes and sipping her tea that was almost cold because lazy Risper had taken forever to serve her. Risper is the plump lady serving at the campus cafeteria. She has a huge tummy you’d think she is pregnant with twins and in her third trimester. She is always in a bad mood, she looks like she is forced to wait on the tables but no, Risper is on a full salary with free food and she lives close by so she doesn’t spend any money commuting to work but I guess some people are just ungrateful towards life.
Actually, her name is Albina and not Albums but thanks to Lilian, the hasty one, whose OCD apparently doesn’t stretch to messages with typos unlike Victor the lab manager who re-reads every single word and checks for punctuation before he sends a text or an e-mail. So, from the day Lilian typed Albums in the lab’s WhatsApp group instead of Albina, the nerds in the group picked it up and immediately baptized her Albums.
“You know I read your article,” Albums said with a pause. “The Push”, she said excitedly, her big beautiful eyes almost popping out of their sockets. “Oh, you did?” “Yes, I did, and I loved it. It resonated so much with my journey of life. What do you call it?” “This walk of life,” I said. “Yes, this walk of life.” She repeated as though tasting the sound of the words on her elegant lips. “You should write my story, one of these fine days you and I are gonna sit down and talk then you’ll have something to write about” “That will be an honor,” I said as we stood up to go back to our stations.
Spoiler alert? This isn’t the story. See, we are where we are for a purpose and a season. When the purpose has been accomplished and the season is over, then no matter what we do and no matter how much we fight, if it is time to move, it is time to move and sometimes God will ‘frustrate’ our plans so as to order our steps in the direction He has ordained for us because He causes all things to work together for our good. For Albums, God had to use her boss. He frustrated her so much that she contemplated quitting. “I was tired, man; I was ready for anything even if it meant going to the farmers’ market to buy groceries and come sell them in the estate,” she said her lips torn between a smile and laughter. “But see God! Timmy, He opened a door for me right when I needed a way out” she said beaming with cheerfulness as though she had waited for years for an opportunity to use those words on someone.
Here’s the thing I’ve learnt in this walk of life, you are never going to move to the next level until you are tired of the status quo but sometimes we hold back because of the fear of the unknown. And so God scuttles the peace we have created around ourselves and brews a storm that He knows will catalyze the reaction in us and cause us to move. Some of the storms that happen in our lives aren’t just storms, not every bad thing happening in our lives is a bad thing. Sometimes God will use any situation, the good, the bad and the ugly in order to create an escape route for you because He is a father; a father who knows the end from the beginning and he will do anything in order to re-align us to His purposes.
It is a walk of faith and not of sight, even when you can’t feel Him working, you still got to find peace in your heart and know that He never stops working. You have to get to a point where you are satisfied in every circumstance because you know that He is God and that He is enough.
Sometimes the people frustrating you think they got you where they want you to be, but in reality, they’re fulfilling God’s purposes for your life and they have no idea.
