Is Not This Joseph’s Son?

Luke 4:20 (KJV) And He closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. I love that. Can I just preach right there? Listen, God is going to bring you to a place where all eyes will be gazed on you. He is a God who can cause all the attention to be on you.

Luke 4:22 (KJV) And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

This is profound. Listen, I know you have been judged like every day of your life, but hey, before you whine and cry over people judging you, did you know Jesus was judged? And wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, is not this Joseph's son?

What this really means is this. How dare you talk like that? How did you even get to talk like that? How do you even get to have such wisdom? Your dad is a local carpenter. Aren’t you Joseph’s son? Stay in your place.

What do you think you are doing dreaming of getting a degree? Who do you think you are hoping to get the best husband / wife in this life? Who told you, you will make it in life? Have you forgotten you are a single mother? You are Joseph’s son. Your dad is nothing but a carpenter.

You have fasted in the wilderness for forty days, you have been tempted by the devil in three categories, you have been declared by John the Baptist as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, a voice from heaven has publicly declared that “this is my beloved son in whom I am pleased with” but still people ask the question Is not this Joseph’s son?

See, only you can answer that question. Is not this Joseph’s son? And your answer should be No I’m not. I am not Joseph’s son, he raised me but I am not trapped by where I came from. I am not bound by who raised me. He raised me, I was in it, but I’m not of it. How dare you define me by what you see on the outside? How dare you define me by your limited understanding of what you see? I am not who you think I am. I am not who you say I am.

Listen Child of God, you are not who people say you are, failing once does not make you a failure. That failing experience was an opportunity to learn.

Luke 4:20 (KJV) And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down.

Where God has put a period, no one else can come and continue from there. The buck stops with God. You are His royal priesthood, His chosen generation, a people belonging to Him, that’s who you are
