Ecclesiastes 9:11 (NKJV) I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favour to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

One chilly morning in the winter of 2017, I was heading to work, as was my routine. I had, rather I have this habit of using my vacations to take up volunteer jobs working with charity organizations across different countries teaching kids and young adults as my way of giving back to the community. On this particular morning, I had opted to take a walk rather than ride with the organization’s van. Dressed in my favourite faded blue rugged jeans, red polo shirt, a black winter jacket and old school canvass sneakers, I wanted a few minutes to reflect (or so I thought). Little did I know that this walk was a way the universe was aligning itself to gift me back maybe as an answered prayer or just as a reward for giving up my social life and the pleasures of a vacation to go work in a camp.

I walked to the main gate and as I was going through the security check, my laptop bag almost fell down as one of the security guards was placing it on the side. Luckily, for me, a lady in front of me reached out and saved it. She turned her head to me handing me the bag and she smiled this lovely, welcoming smile. It was the sweetest thing I had ever seen in a very long time. There was this warmth in her blue eyes that melted my heart despite the chilly of the morning. God! She was beautiful. As I walked a few meters behind her, my entire system kept screaming in me, ‘reach out to her’, ‘talk to her’, ‘say something’. The whole universe really wanted me to pursue her and I didn’t. I chocked on guilt as I walked into the office knowing that I had let a rare opportunity slip through my fingers. I knew I had let down the entire creation.

See, not so many things are guaranteed in life. The race favours only the swift, battles favours only the strong, earning bread favours only the wise, riches only favours men of understanding and favour only favours men of skill. Sometimes it is easy to look at all these and wonder, so what happens to me? Here’s the good news. Life may not guarantee you everything; it may not guarantee you a CFO job on the fourteenth floor, it may not guarantee you money, nor fame nor a slot on the Forbes magazine or whatever else your heart may so desire, but it guarantees “time and chance”. ~ Opportunities ~

This article is not far from the last one I wrote. I’ll be honest with you guys, more than five times I tried to change the subject and write about something else but something in my spirit couldn’t allow me, so I decided to follow the voice in me. The voice that whispered to me, “write, write to my children and tell them I’m opening up opportunities for them in 2019. Tell them to be sensitive and alert to the opportunities I’ll bring their way”. Time and chance doesn’t happen to the selected few, at least that’s not what the Bible records. It happens to THEM ALL because our God does not show partiality. So no matter who you are, where you come from or what level you are at in life, opportunities will open up for you this year. Time and chance will happen for you because He who has promised is faithful.

Child of God, the one thing life guarantees is an opportunity. Don’t miss out.
