Genesis 22:1- 4 'And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. '
God says to Abraham, go to the land of Moriah and offer your son as a sacrifice upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee off. Other versions say, one of the mountains which I will show you. On the third day of his travel, the Bible says that he lifted up his eyes and he saw the place afar off. See, the Bible doesn’t record anywhere that God spoke to Abraham and pointed to him the mountain on which he was to offer the offering. So, the biggest mystery we have to demystify here is how did Abraham know that that was the place God wanted him to make that sacrifice?
This mystery baffled me for a long time until the time I set out to buy my first car. I have loved the BMW 320i series ever since I was young so, I knew in my heart that I was going to buy this specific car. My dealer sent me a couple of pictures of what they had in the yard and in as much as they were the exact model I wanted, I kept passing over them until I got to this specific one and I stopped in my tracks. Right there I called the dealer and informed him I was buying that car.
There’s something I’ve discovered in this walk of life, there is a level you get to when you walk with God that you get so in sync with Him to a point that you get to know His mind and His heart. God will drop something in you that even when He doesn’t say something else, deep down your heart, in the know of your know, you just know. Abraham knew the heart of God, He lifted up his eyes and he knew in his gut that that was the place he was meant to make that sacrifice. I knew I was going to buy a BMW 320i way before I owned a quarter of the money that buys such a car.
See, the thing about this kind of knowing is it cannot make sense to everyone because sometimes it is personal. People won’t understand how you quit your job to go into ministry. Some of my friends couldn’t understand when I told them I was going to buy that car. “People don’t start with a Bima,” they told me. “it is a guzzler” they added. And that’s the beauty of our faith, it doesn't have to make sense. As long as you know that you know that you know. Abraham had never been to the land of Moriah but when he saw the place he knew; Adam had never seen another human being in the garden of Eden neither did he see what God did because he was asleep but when he saw Eve he knew.
Listen, sojourn this life with God. Establish, and stabilize your heart on the word of God. Let the word take deep root in you, let His word build the infrastructure of your character. Let it shape the very fabric and foundation of your heart. It is only when the truth of God’s word has solidly taken its place in you that you stop to move with feelings and you start to move in conviction because
Child of God, when you know you know.
